You are the second reader. Your job is to find the reasons to say no, and there are good ones to look for with any tool that points a machine at a member of staff. So rather than make you dig for them, here is what Edge will not do, why, and what we have built in to hold ourselves to it.
One thing to say before any of it. Edge is built to work out what somebody is suited to, not to work out who should go. Most of what goes wrong at work is a good person in a job that wants something different from them, and that is exactly the finding the product is designed to surface.
01 · What it actually is
Five to seven minutes on a phone, in their own words. No scales, no sliders, no marks out of ten and nothing to fill in. Edge is being built to read how the answer is constructed rather than whether the answer is correct: how the problem is framed, where the person puts the cause, and whether they are describing something they did or something that happened to them. Delivery supports that reading and never decides a score on its own.
The output is three pillars, a plain English summary, the action against each one, and a confidence rating that says how strongly the evidence supports the read. A human being interprets it and a human being makes every decision that follows.
02 · The six rules
Volume of speech is not a performance signal. A person who says the useful thing in twenty seconds is not marked down against a person who takes two minutes to get there.
Presenting well and performing well are different things, and conflating them is most of what is wrong with interviewing. Assurance in the voice is not evidence of judgement behind it.
How somebody sounds is not who they are. Regional accent, class markers and speech rhythm are not inputs to a score, and testing for exactly that is part of what the pilots are for.
Fluency is not thinking. A person can reason well in plain words and a person can reason well in their third language, and the reading has to survive both or it is not worth having.
Admitting the limit of what you know is a competence, not a failure. A pause is not a deficiency. Where the evidence is thin, the confidence rating drops. The score does not.
Edge is non-clinical by design rather than by disclaimer. It does not screen for, detect or name any mental health condition, and there is no route through the product by which it could.
03 · Three more that matter to you
Nobody is recorded without knowing. A person opens a link, is told what this is, what it is for and who sees the output, and chooses to answer. There is no passive listening, no background capture and no analysis of any conversation that was not this.
Edge produces a signal. It does not select, reject, rank, promote or dismiss, and no decision about a person should ever rest on it alone. The manager is still the person in the room and still accountable for the call they make.
The entire premise is that mental performance is trainable. A reading is where somebody is this month, measured against their own previous readings. It is not a type, a label or a verdict, and it is not a thing to be filed against a person's name for the rest of their career.
04 · Data
Roles, lawful basis, retention, security, sub-processors and the rights of the individual are set out in the data protection pack and in the agreement, not summarised away on a web page. Our Chief Operating Officer wrote it, he is the named contact on it, and he will take your data protection lead through it line by line before anybody signs anything.
The full published position is on the data protection page. If your lead wants the underlying pack rather than the summary, ask on the call and we will send it.
05 · What we will not claim
Edge is in build. The first pilot cohorts run this autumn and phase one of that work is data collection, so there are no findings, no results and no customer outputs. Anybody showing you a real report from a real business today is showing you something that does not exist.
We are not going to tell you that it is validated, because the validation work is what the pilots and the founding ten are for. What we will do is show you the framework, the output design, the fairness rules above and how we intend to test them, and let you judge whether that is a thing your organisation wants to be early on.
06 · Your questions
Every one of those has an answer and none of them is a trade secret. Put them to us on the call.
Next
If you are the person who has to sign this off, come on the call rather than reading a summary of it afterwards. We will answer the questions above in front of whoever needs to hear the answers, and if Edge is not a fit for your organisation we will say so.
